the iliad story

It is a lesser known 'fact' that once upon a time a gift was given to the Goddess Hera on the fair Island of Samos! The gift was the 'Pythi Kiwi' and was duely named by the locals as the 'Iliad'. Little did the Samians know that the Pythi Kiwi contained foreigners of Greek, New Zealand, Dutch, Belgian, Swedish and Brithish origin to name but a few.

Late in the dead of the night, the doors of the Pythi Kiwi would open and the 'jolly' foreigners would stagger onto the harbour promenade in search of treasure (namely food from the near by restaurants) or to loot the other bars along the pictureque harbour.

Some stories have taken mythical proportions quite by chance! An example of such is the story of Homer: a sign writer local to Samos, who was told by his wife Marge to do some advertising on the very large Kiwi located in Pythagorio. So one fine day Homer, paintbrush in hand, wrote the "ILIAD" on the front of the Pythi Kiwi and it has been called that name ever since!!!!

Now we can not guarantee that this story is based on fact, but one thing that is for sure, you'll have a great time at the Iliad Cafe Bar - Pythagorio, Samos!!!!
